Today, the Centenary Stadium will host two YoHealth Malta Premier League matches. Birkirkara play Marsaxlokk at 16:30, while Hibernians face Mosta at 19:00.
Birkirkara did not play their Meridianbet FA Trophy match against Pietà Hotspurs on Tuesday due to a change in the league schedule. They are coming off a 2-0 league defeat to Gżira United and will be eager to get back to winning ways to build momentum and avoid finishing in the same position as in the Opening Round. They will be without Uruguayan defender Fran López, who was sent off with a straight red card against Gżira.
Marsaxlokk, who were already eliminated from the FA Trophy in the previous round, come into this match after a hard-fought 2-1 win over Tarxien Rainbows. The Southsiders will also be aiming for all three points, especially after strengthening their squad this week with three new foreign players.
In the evening match, Hibernians take on Mosta. Hibernians have a slight advantage, as Mosta played in the FA Trophy last Wednesday, beating Mġarr, while Hibernians last played on Sunday, winning 3-1 against Sliema Wanderers in the league. Hibernians have replaced their top scorer Lucas Villela, who moved to Al Fahaheel in Kuwait, with Nigerian striker Sunday Akinbule, who previously played for Mosta and Marsaxlokk.
Mosta have also been very active in the transfer window, bringing in several players, mostly from Africa, while also releasing others. However, they have had a poor start to the Closing Round, losing their first two matches against Valletta and Floriana. As a result, they sit bottom of the table with no points, alongside Żabbar and Tarxien.
