A 2-1 win over St. Pauli on Saturday ensured Bayer Leverkusen didn’t lose any more ground in the Bundesliga title race. They have now won five games in a row, including a 5-0 thumping victory of Salzburg on matchday five of the UEFA Champions League (UCL), meaning the Germans are sixth in the league phase after five matches (W3, D1, L1) and only three points behind second-placed Inter Milan.  

Last season’s UEFA Europa League winners Atalanta are unbeaten in the UEFA Champions League (UCL) this term (W3, D2) and on Friday made it nine Serie A wins in a row by beating AC Milan 2-1. Now, one of Europe’s most in-form teams may have revenge on their minds against reigning UCL champions Real Madrid, who beat them 2-0 in the UEFA Super Cup in August.
