Hibernians….2
Mosta…………0
Hibernians FC officially secured their place in next season’s Malta Premier, maintaining their proud ever-present status in the top flight and continuing their historic record of never having been relegated.
The Peacocks confirmed their safety on Friday night with a deserved 2-0 win over bottom side Mosta, with Brazilian forward Felicio Carvalho Miullen scoring twice to settle the contest.
Hibernians were the better side for long spells and could have won by a wider margin, while the result leaves Mosta facing an increasingly desperate fight to avoid finishing in the bottom two.
The Paolites made the stronger start and took the lead after 18 minutes. Mosta goalkeeper Akpan Udoh could only partially save an effort from Claudio Mendonca, and Miullen was quick to react, turning in the rebound from close range.
Mosta struggled to create much in the opening stages, although Gabriel Goncalves sent an effort over before Udoh was called into action again at the other end, producing a fine save to deny Mendonca.

Hibernians remained the more threatening side before the interval, with Bjorn Kristensen unlucky to see a powerful effort come back off the crossbar. Mosta did have a late chance in the first half through Prince, but Ciprian Branescu was alert to keep Hibernians in front.
The second half began with Mosta showing more intent, but Hibernians struck again after 52 minutes. Miullen was involved in the build-up, releasing Mendonca, whose shot came back off the post. The Brazilian forward followed up sharply and fired home the rebound for his second goal of the night.
From that point, Hibernians managed the match with maturity, protecting their two-goal advantage and limiting Mosta to very little in the final third.
For Hibernians, the victory brought clarity and relief after a testing Bottom Six campaign. For Mosta, the situation is now extremely difficult, with survival requiring a major turnaround in the closing stages of the season.
