The Malta Football Association has made a €5,000 donation to Caritas Malta as part of its 125th anniversary celebrations. In return, the Malta FA received a unique book signed by 234 current and former Malta national team players.
Caritas Malta, founded in 1968, is a charitable organisation that works to reduce poverty and promote social justice and human development across the Maltese Islands.
The signed book, officially titled Malta All-Time National Football Players, was created by former national team player Jimmy Briffa. It includes signatures from many football legends, starting with Joe Cini, and has been legally registered by a notary.
Mr Briffa dedicated significant time and effort to collecting these signatures, making the book a true tribute to Malta’s football history.

The handover ceremony was held at the Malta Museum of Football, where Malta FA President Bjorn Vassallo led the proceedings. Also present were former players Joe Cini and Miguel Mifsud, Caritas Malta CEO Anthony Gatt, and Antoinette Vassallo, widow of the late Willie Vassallo, who also represented Malta and played for Gżira United and Floriana.
Before the presentation, guests from Caritas were given a tour of the Football Museum to learn more about the sport’s history and cultural significance in Malta.
The book was officially handed over to Joe Cini, who placed it in a display case at the museum, where it will now be preserved as part of the national football heritage.
President Vassallo said the donation and acquisition highlight the Malta FA’s ongoing commitment to social responsibility and preserving local sporting history.
Anthony Gatt thanked both Jimmy Briffa for his efforts and the Malta FA for supporting those in need of rehabilitation.
This event is part of a wider programme of activities marking the Malta FA’s 125th anniversary, with a strong focus on inclusion and social impact.
