CAS dismisses Swieqi United appeal over jurisdiction

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has issued its decision on an appeal by Swieqi United against Melita FC and the Malta FA regarding a BOV Challenge League match played on 13 September 2025.

The case started after Melita FC filed a protest, claiming that Swieqi had fielded an ineligible player, which would breach the competition rules. Melita asked for the match to be awarded as a 3-0 win in their favour.

Swieqi United accepted that an ineligible player took part in the match, but argued that they were still allowed to register the squad under the rules for non-Maltese players.

The Malta FA Protests Board later upheld Melita’s complaint and awarded them a 3-0 win.

Swieqi then appealed the decision to CAS on 15 October 2025.

After reviewing the case, CAS ruled on 14 April 2026 that the appeal was dismissed because it did not have jurisdiction to hear the case.
