Bormla Subbuteo Club starts year strong with international titles

Bormla Subbuteo Club enjoyed a highly successful outing at the Yorkshire International Open on Saturday, securing three gold medals and one silver across individual and team competitions.

In the Individual competition, David Bermudez Gonzalez claimed the title with a 4-2 victory over fellow Bormla player George Ebejer. The tournament featured 52 participants, with Gonzalez defeating French competitor Remi Soret 4-0 in the semi-final and Ebejer overcoming Belgian Olivier Pere 2-0 to reach the final.

The Silver Shield category was won by another Bormla representative, sixteen-year-old Gabriel Ebejer, who edged past Brendan Ashley 1-0.

Bormla Subbuteo Club also excelled in the teams competition, winning the International Open following a 2-2 draw in the final that secured them victory on goal difference. In earlier rounds, the team achieved a 4-0 win against England’s Yorkshire Phoenix B in Group A and a 3-0 semi-final victory over Hennuyer B. The winning squad included David Bermudez Gonzalez, George Ebejer, Josef Camilleri, and two younger players, Gabriel and Thomas Ebejer, aged sixteen and eighteen, who were promoted to the first team for the tournament.

This success marks a strong start to the year for Bormla SC, who continue to hold first place in the World FISTF Teams rankings, a position they have maintained for 19 consecutive months. The club’s performance in the Yorkshire International Open reinforces their reputation as one of the leading Subbuteo teams in international competition.
