Bormla Subbuteo Club has made history by clinching the Major of Ilioupoli title in Athens, Greece, following a thrilling 2-1 victory over Greek side Proteas in the final. Out of 26 participating teams, Bormla was the only foreign club and reached the final for the second consecutive year — this time emerging victorious with their first-ever Major title.
Their path to glory was nothing short of impressive. Bormla topped Group 1 with dominant wins over Piraeus Lions (4-0), Noctuas Athens B (3-0), and Crimson Horses (3-1). In the knockout stages, they edged past Atlas FTC 1-0 in the quarter-finals and secured a 2-1 win against Olympia CS in the semi-finals.
This remarkable success, coming less than fifteen days after their triumph at the Grand Prix of Messina, is being hailed as a crowning achievement by both athletes and organisers. Having held the top spot in the FISTF world rankings for over a year, Bormla has now further solidified its position among the sport’s elite.
The victorious squad included Captain Jason Pisani, George Ebejer, Jean Carl Tabone, Josef Camilleri, and Belgian player Bessim Golger. Notably, Jason Pisani also reached the semi-finals in the individual veterans category held on Saturday.
Next stop for Bormla Subbuteo Club: the Grand Prix of Ludwigsburg in Germany.
