Naxxar Lions climbed to fourth after beating Tarxien Rainbows 2-1 in an important YoHealth Malta Premier Closing Round clash.
The match remained goalless at half-time, but Naxxar broke the deadlock just after the restart. A low ball from the left reached Joao Souza Dos Santos, who calmly slotted home to give his side the lead.
Moments later, Naxxar were awarded a penalty when De Jesus was fouled inside the area by Miguel D’Alessandro. The Tarxien player received his second yellow card and was sent off, reducing his team to 10 men. Souza Dos Santos converted from the spot to make it 2-0.
Tarxien managed to reduce the gap in the 90th minute thanks to a fine goal by Kwasi Donsu, but Naxxar stayed in control and secured the victory.
On the other hand Tarxien’s problems continue to persist as they now return to the bottom two.
