Ħamrun Spartans secured a 4-1 win over Floriana at the National Stadium in what was an important win for Giacomo Modica’s team. The Spartans struggled at times to score although having much of the ball especially in the second half.
The Spartans made a fast start when Blessing Eleke scored after just seven minutes to give them an early lead. Floriana responded in the first half, with Zachary Scerri equalising from the penalty spot after a foul inside the box.
The match stayed level at 1-1 until the final stages, with both teams competing closely throughout.
In the 78th minute, Joseph Mbong put Ħamrun back in front with a well-taken goal. He then added his second in the 86th minute to extend the lead to 3-1.
Late in the match, Italian youngster Michele Carboni scored the fourth goal to seal an impressive 4-1 victory.
With this win, Ħamrun Spartans moved one step closer to a potential finalissima against Floriana, depending on how the competition develops.
