Napoli slipped further behind in the Serie A title race after losing 2-1 away to Atalanta. The win means Atalanta are now unbeaten in nine league matches.
Napoli took the lead in the 18th minute. A well-delivered free-kick from Miguel Gutiérrez found Sam Beukema unmarked in the box, and he scored from close range.
Atalanta tried to respond before half-time, but Vanja Milinković-Savić made a good save to deny Kamaldeen Sulemana. Napoli were later awarded a penalty, but after a VAR review, the referee changed his decision.
Napoli thought they had doubled their lead just seconds into the second half, but the goal was ruled out for a foul in the build-up.
Atalanta equalised just after the hour mark. A corner from Nicola Zalewski was met by Mario Pašalić, whose header found the net.
The home side grew in confidence and kept pushing forward. With less than 10 minutes remaining, Lazar Samardžić scored the winner with a powerful header from Lorenzo Bernasconi’s cross.
The result keeps Atalanta seventh in the table, while Napoli, now third, must quickly recover to keep their fading title hopes alive.
