Simon Spiteri has been crowned the new National Road Running Champion after securing second place in the final leg of the six-race series, a 5k event held in Ta’ Qali. The race was won by Dillon Cassar, who added yet another accolade to his impressive local achievements. Cassar, representing Mellieħa AC, claimed victory in 14:48—his second win of the season—finishing five seconds ahead of St Patrick’s Spiteri. Gabriel Farrugia of Evolve Endurance Club completed the podium in 14:55.

Spiteri’s strong performance caps off an outstanding season, having previously won the 10k National Championship earlier in the year. In the overall championship standings, Aidan Tanti and Charlton Debono finished second and third, respectively.
On the women’s side, Lisa Bezzina dominated once again, completing a perfect season by winning all six races, including both the 5k and 10k National Championships. She secured victory in Ta’ Qali with a time of 18:03, ahead of her Pembroke Athleta teammate Rosalie Borg, who finished in 18:34 to confirm her second-place ranking overall. Monalisa Camilleri of Libertas placed third in the final race with a time of 18:49, but it was Blaze SC’s Josann Attard Pulis who secured third place in the overall series standings.
The final 5k race also determined the outcome of the Clubs’ Championship. While Pembroke Athleta’s women dominated to claim the title, the men’s competition remained open until the final event.
Despite Cassar’s individual successes contributing valuable points for Mellieħa AC, it was Evolve Endurance Club that emerged as the overall men’s club champion. Consistent performances from Gabriel Farrugia, Aidan Tanti, and Charlton Debono played a crucial role in securing the team victory.
