Isaura Camilleri and Gabriel Farrugia have won the National 5K Road Running titles at the Athletics Malta Championship held in Ta’ Qali.
Camilleri won her first national 5K title with a strong run, finishing in 17:37. She beat Ritianne Zammit, who came second in 17:44, while Roberta Schembri finished third in 18:01.
In the men’s race, Farrugia was once again in top form, winning the race in 14:26. This was his fifth win in a row this season, and the result also set a new national record for both senior and Under-23 levels.
Simon Spiteri finished second in 14:33, with Luke Micallef taking third place in 14:43.
Farrugia also secured the overall National Road Running League title with his victory.
In the women’s league, the title fight is still open between Isaura Camilleri, Ritianne Zammit, Roberta Schembri and Rosalie Borg, with the final race set to decide the winner on 3 May in Mellieħa.

In the team standings, Żurrieq Wolves lead the men’s competition, while Pembroke are ahead in the women’s league.
Separately, Maltese athlete Mireya Bugeja won the 1500m race at the Wake Forest Invitational in the USA, setting a new Under-23 national record with a time of 4:23.22.
