Matthew Mallia strikes Gold for Malta at the Windsor Wrestling Open

Matthew Mallia brought home a gold medal for Malta at the Windsor Wrestling Open, which took place yesterday in London, winning all three of his bouts in the Senior 97kg category to claim the top prize.

Three of Malta’s Under-17 wrestlers, Denzel Zammit, Adam Vassallo and Craig Grech, each won a bout in their respective categories but narrowly missed out on reaching the medal positions. Also competing in the senior events were Gabriel Caruana, Mark Bugeja and Cedric Vella.

The team was accompanied by Jesmond Giordmaina, who served as national team coach, and Abraham Vassallo, who officiated as an international referee.

The trip was made possible with the support of the Malta Olympic Committee, SportMalta and Bridgepoint.
