Over the past weekend, the Malta Amateur Wrestling Federation successfully hosted the Bridgepoint Malta Wrestling Championships, securing an impressive second place. The event was exceptionally well organised and featured strong international competition, providing an excellent learning experience for Maltese wrestlers, who once again demonstrated their ability to perform at this level.
Vardar Wrestling Club from North Macedonia claimed first place, followed by the Maltese National Wrestling Team in second. The Irish Amateur Wrestling Team finished third, closely trailed by competitors from Serbia and Borgo Prati Lotta, an Italian wrestling club. Additional individual athletes from Wales and Bulgaria also took part.
Maltese wrestlers delivered outstanding performances, earning several medals:
- Gary Giordmaina – Gold (57kg)
- Gabriel Caruana – Gold (61kg) and Bronze (65kg)
- Valentine – Bronze (70kg)
- Yegor – Bronze (74kg)
- Frangesko – Silver (79kg)
- David Agius – Bronze (79kg)
- Cedric Vella – Silver (92kg)
- Matthew Mallia – Bronze (97kg)
Team Malta was led by national coach Jesmond Giordmaina.
