Monaco midfielder Paul Pogba has strengthened his links with sport in Saudi Arabia by investing in a professional camel racing team.
The former Manchester United and Juventus player recently returned to action with Monaco, and he has now become a shareholder and ambassador for Al Haboob, the world’s first professional camel racing team competing across the UAE and the Gulf.
Speaking to the BBC, the 32-year-old said he has watched plenty of camel races online and has spent time learning about the techniques and strategies behind the sport.
He said:
“What stood out to me is how much dedication everyone involved needs. At the end of the day, sport is sport – it takes heart, sacrifice, and teamwork. Whether it’s football, camel racing, or boxing, the basics are the same. You need determination, focus, discipline and grit. That’s what makes champions.”
Al Haboob co-owner Omar Almaeena added that Pogba’s involvement is a major step for the team:
“His influence, leadership and passion for cultural storytelling represent exactly what Al Haboob stands for. This partnership is about more than racing; it’s about sharing a heritage that deserves global recognition.”
