Juha Miettinen has died and six other drivers were injured following a crash during the ADAC 24h Nürburgring Qualifiers on Saturday.
The accident happened early in the race and involved seven drivers. Miettinen could not be saved despite emergency teams arriving quickly. He was taken from his car and treated at the circuit’s medical centre, but sadly died after attempts to resuscitate him failed.
The other six drivers were taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
Officials at the Nürburgring confirmed the race would not continue on Saturday evening. A minute’s silence will instead be held on Sunday before the next session.
