The Assikura Women’s League has entered its crucial second phase, with the top four teams fighting for the league title and a spot in next season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League.
Only three points separate the title contenders, setting up an exciting and tense end to the season that could go right to the last match.
In the first round of matches, Hibernians will play reigning champions Birkirkara, while Mġarr United will face Swieqi United. The next two matchdays will see Hibernians take on Mġarr and Swieqi play Birkirkara, followed by Hibernians against Swieqi and Birkirkara facing Mġarr in the final round.
These fixtures will be repeated twice more to decide the Maltese champion for the 2024/2025 season.
All four top teams have strengthened their squads during the January transfer window, with several new signings already making their debuts.
Among the new players, Luz Hernandez from Mġarr United and Viverly Nanez from Birkirkara stood out, with Nanez scoring on her first appearance against Mtarfa.
Meanwhile, the bottom four teams will be fighting for better positioning. San Ġwann, who lead this group with 16 points, will play Valletta in their first match of the second phase.
In the other match, Lija Athletic will face Mtarfa, as the teams look to finish their campaigns on a high.
