Mġarr United dropped their first points of the season but maintained their unbeaten record after a goalless draw against title rivals Hibernians in the Assikura Women’s League. The result keeps Mġarr United at the top of the standings on 28 points after ten matchdays.
The match came only days after the two sides met in the Malta FA Jubilee Cup final, which Mġarr United won at the National Stadium. Despite the draw, Mġarr United remain leaders, although their advantage was reduced to six points following Swieqi United decisive victory over Valletta.
Hibernians moved to 20 points and sit third in the table, trailing leaders Mġarr United by eight points. Swieqi United climbed to second place on 22 points after a comprehensive win against Valletta.
Swieqi United recorded a 6 to 0 victory, with Serbian midfielder Andela Kricak scoring four goals inside the opening 35 minutes. The Owls added two more goals after the break to secure the points. Valletta remain bottom of the standings with one point from ten matches.
Elsewhere, Birkirkara strengthened their position in fourth place with a 3 to 0 win over San Ġwann. Patricia Lamanna opened the scoring in the 70th minute before Japanese midfielder Momo Ueda added two goals, including one in stoppage time. The result lifted Birkirkara to 12 points, while San Ġwann remain fifth on four points.
After ten rounds, the standings see Mġarr United on 28 points, followed by Swieqi United on 22, Hibernians on 20, Birkirkara on 12, San Ġwann on 4, and Valletta at the foot of the table.
Attention now turns to Matchday 11, which concludes the 2025 calendar year. Leaders Mġarr United face second placed Swieqi United at the Victor Tedesco Stadium in a key fixture that could impact the title race. Hibernians will travel to face San Ġwann as they aim to remain in contention.
