St Andrew’s Futsal were crowned champions of the inaugural Maltese Cross Futsal Cup after a thrilling 3-2 comeback win over Swieqi United LEC 07, sealed by a last-gasp goal just seconds from the final whistle.
In a tightly-contested final, it was St Andrew’s who struck first through Emil Raducu, before Swieqi levelled the score ten minutes later thanks to Rodrigo Rocha. Momentum shifted as Alexander Sanchez fired Swieqi into the lead, setting the stage for what looked to be a famous win.
But with time running out, St Andrew’s turned the match on its head. Anderson Castro found the net to draw them level, and just 17 seconds before full-time, Jhonn Castro Pulido delivered the decisive blow to secure the silverware.
Referees for the match were Stephen Vella and Matthias Buttigieg.
In the Enemed Challenger League, Malta’s Under-19 futsal team claimed a 3-2 victory over the Under-17s in a tightly-fought play-off decider. Aiden Buhagiar, Samuel Christoph Abela, and Isaac Vella were on target for the U19s, while Luke Urpani netted a brace for the U17 side.
The match was also officiated by Stephen Vella and Matthias Buttigieg.
