It proved to be an important week for men’s futsal in Malta as decisive results helped shape the final playoff picture in both the Challenger Futsal League and the Premier Futsal League.

In the Challenger Futsal League, Sliema Futsal Fort Fitness recorded a convincing 5-1 victory over Futsal Selection U17, with Brazilian Rodrigues Silva Leonardo leading the way in style by scoring four goals.

There was also plenty of excitement in the clash between Santa Venera Lightnings Futsal and Futsal Selection U19, as the two teams shared the spoils in an entertaining 5-5 draw. Noel Busuttil was the standout performer for Santa Venera, finding the net four times in what was a balanced and intense encounter.
In the Premier Futsal League, two more matches were played and, although some fixtures are still outstanding, the teams that will feature in the playoffs have now been confirmed.

Marsaskala Futsal Legends produced a dominant display to defeat Zejtun Corinthians Futsal 13-3, a result which means Żejtun will now compete in the Challenger League playoffs. Karl Luke Schembri enjoyed an excellent outing, scoring six goals in an impressive individual performance.

In the other match, University of Malta Futsal beat GZR Birzebbugia St Peter’s Futsal 5-1 to keep alive their hopes of finishing top of the standings. They will now have the chance to force a decider for first place when they face Luxol St Andrews Futsal on March 20.

With the final Premier League standings still awaiting confirmation, attention in the Challenger League now turns fully to the playoff phase.
In the quarter-final, Santa Venera Lightnings Futsal will face Futsal Selection U17, with the winners progressing to meet Zejtun Corinthians Futsal in the semi-final.
The other semi-final will see Futsal Selection U19 go up against Sliema Futsal Fort Fitness in what promises to be another intriguing contest.
