Introduction of Futsal Video Support
The 2026 finals will also mark the introduction of Futsal Video Support in Maltese futsal competitions. The system will allow coaches to request one review per half.
A theoretical session on the implementation of the system was recently delivered by the President of the Futsal Malta Association, Mark Borg, together with the Head of Referees at the Malta Football Association, Alan Mario Sant. During the session, the role of technology in futsal and its contribution to match officiating procedures was outlined.
The session concluded with a visit to the new National Football Centre. Attendees were shown the facilities that will support the development of futsal in Malta. Practical demonstrations were also held, with referees and coaches observing a mock camera setup designed to simulate match situations and demonstrate how the video review system operates during official competitions.
