The 145th IOC Session in Milan finished with several important decisions.
Two athletes, Yunjong Won (South Korea, bobsleigh) and Johanna Talihärm (Estonia, biathlon), were elected as new IOC Members. They were chosen by fellow athletes at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games and officially approved during the Session. After the vote, they took the IOC oath, confirming their membership.
Pau Gasol Sáez was elected as the new Chair of the IOC Athletes’ Commission and also joins the IOC Executive Board. He replaces Emma Terho, whose term has ended. Two other Athletes’ Commission members, Astrid Uhrenholdt Jacobsen and Hong Zhang, have also completed their terms and will no longer be IOC Members.
After the Winter Games, the IOC will have 106 Members: 46 women and 60 men. Women will make up 43.4% of the membership. There will also be 42 Olympians among the Members (23 women and 19 men), showing strong athlete representation.
The Session also agreed that two long-serving IOC Members, Syed Shahid Ali (Pakistan) and Dr Robin E. Mitchell (Fiji), will become Honorary Members from 1 January 2027.
Finally, it was confirmed that an extraordinary IOC Session will take place in Lausanne on 24–25 June 2026.
