Marsaxlokk were in top form on Sunday and their performance was rewarded with a 3-1 win over reigning champions Ħamrun Spartans.
This victory was also welcomed by Floriana, who opened a four-point lead at the top after their win against Birkirkara.
Marsaxlokk took the lead in the 20th minute through Fred, who scored from inside the box.
They doubled their advantage in the 44th minute when Minala found the net with a shot from outside the area.
Just before half-time, Ħamrun Spartans reduced the gap as Koffi scored in added time of the first half.
Marsaxlokk sealed the win in the 60th minute with a headed goal by Soares from a corner. Despite the win, Enzo Potenza’s men are still 5th in the Top 6 table but closed the gap to 4 points from 2nd place Ħamrun and 8 from leaders Floriana.
