Maltese mountaineer Nicky Ellul reached Everest Base Camp on Sunday 12th April. He will stay there for the next four to six weeks as he prepares to climb Mount Everest.
After arriving in Lukla, the main entry point to the Himalayas, he walked for seven days to reach base camp, which is 5,364 metres above sea level.
During the first few days, he had some stomach problems, but he was still able to continue walking with the group. He is now feeling well and says he is ready, both physically and mentally, to begin getting used to the high altitude.
In the next few days, he plans to climb Lobuche East, which is 6,119 metres high. After that, he will return to base camp and start climbing to higher camps, Camp 1, 2, and 3, reaching over 7,000 metres before coming back down to rest.

He will then wait for the right weather conditions before making his final attempt to reach the summit.
