Floriana moved closer to winning the Closing Round after beating Marsaxlokk 3-1 on Wednesday night at the National Stadium. It was their 14th match in a row without defeat.
Marsaxlokk started well and took the lead in the 7th minute, when Dodo scored with a brilliant shot from outside the box.
Floriana responded quickly. Federico Varela equalised from close range on 12 minutes, and just before half-time, Paul Mbong made it 2–1 with a good finish.
In the second half, Varela scored again in the 52nd minute with a low shot from outside the box, sealing the win.
Floriana now only need a draw in the derby against Valletta to finish first in the Closing Round.
