Naxxar Lions came from behind to earn their first win of the Closing Round, beating Żabbar St Patrick 2-1.
After a goalless and fairly quiet first half, the match came to life after the break. Just six minutes into the second half, the Saints took the lead when Santiago Cejas scored from close range.
Naxxar responded in the 63rd minute as Joao Victor beat Colombo to make it 1-1. Winston Muscat’s side then pushed for a winner and were rewarded in the 79th minute when Vinicius de Jesus Ferreira found the net to secure all three points.
The win gives the Lions an important boost as they now turn their attention to an FA Trophy clash against Swieqi.
For Żabbar, this was their second defeat of the Closing Round. They now face a busy schedule, with a double header against Floriana, first in the FA Trophy and a few days later in the YoHealth Malta Premier.
