Valletta FC have confirmed that the Malta Football Association Appeals Board has upheld the original six-match suspension imposed on Diogo Tavares.
The decision follows an appeal lodged by the club in relation to the suspension handed to the player after the Valletta FC versus Floriana FC match played on 10 January 2026. Despite the club’s efforts, the Appeals Board ruled in favour of maintaining the original sanction.
In response, Valletta FC expressed strong disappointment with the outcome, stating that the suspension is viewed as disproportionate and not reflective of the full context or circumstances surrounding the incident. The club believes the decision does not fairly represent the mechanics of the player’s actions during the match.
Valletta FC also reaffirmed its full support for Diogo Tavares during this difficult period, confirming that the club will stand by the player and assist him throughout the coming weeks as he prepares for his return to action.
