YoHealth Malta Premier – Opening Round – MD6
Tarxien R……..…..1
Hibernians………..3
Hibernians needed just 90 minutes to reclaim top spot in the YoHealth Malta Premier, delivering a composed 3-1 victory over neighbours Tarxien Rainbows in a lively derby clash.
The Paolites took the lead in the 17th minute when Mailson launched a precise long ball over the top. Cleiton read the pass perfectly, racing ahead of Tarxien goalkeeper Andrea Cassar and calmly slotting home to make it 1-0.
On the stroke of half-time, Hibernians doubled their lead. Duane Bonnici floated in a well-placed cross that found Lucas Villela, who rose highest to head past Cassar and send the home side into the break with a comfortable 2-0 cushion.
Tarxien responded just two minutes after the restart, narrowing the deficit with a low drive from Kwasi Donsu that gave Jacques Scerri’s side a glimmer of hope.
But it was Hibernians who had the final say. In the 89th minute, Villela struck again, this time with a well-placed shot from the edge of the box, to seal the win and ensure Hibernians returned to the summit of the table.
