Day five of the Nations Cup 2026 in Gibraltar proved to be a demanding but encouraging one for the Maltese teams, who produced a number of strong performances across different categories.
The Malta Men’s A team impressed with an 18–7 win over Gibraltar, before continuing their good form with a 14–11 victory against Northern Ireland, underlining their consistency and quality.
In the Men’s B competition, Malta Men’s B had a tough start, losing 15–10 to Wales Men’s B and then 15–10 to Scotland B1. However, they bounced back in style with a dominant 22–3 win over Spain B1 later in the day.
Malta Seniors A also delivered solid performances, beating BAF Seniors A 15–10 before edging a closely fought match against Australia A 13–12.
At youth level, Malta U23 A opened with a 15–10 victory over Wales U23 B, but later suffered a narrow 13–12 defeat to Wales U23 A in a very tight contest.
Individually, Luke Said recorded an important 5–3 win over Hugh Tomson to reach the quarter-finals of the competition.
