Frank Lampard has answered his critics by guiding Coventry City F.C. back to the Premier League for the first time in 25 years.
Coventry secured promotion with a 1-1 draw against Blackburn Rovers F.C., sparking celebrations among the players, staff and travelling supporters at Ewood Park.
It was an emotional moment for Lampard, who was seen in tears after the final whistle. He admitted that proving people wrong has always been a driving force throughout his career.
For Coventry, this marks the end of a long and difficult period. Since their relegation from the top flight in 2001, the club endured years of struggle, including dropping as far as the fourth tier and dealing with stadium issues.
Lampard’s appointment in November 2024 was seen as a gamble at the time, given his mixed record in management. However, the decision has paid off, with Coventry now set to benefit from a significant financial boost following promotion.
The former Chelsea F.C. midfielder enjoyed a highly successful playing career, but his time as a manager has not always been smooth. Previous spells at Derby County, Chelsea and Everton brought mixed results, including dismissals and setbacks.
When he arrived at Coventry, the club was only two points above the relegation zone. However, he managed to turn things around quickly, guiding the team into strong form and eventually to promotion.
Lampard has credited lessons learned from former managers such as José Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti, saying he has developed his own style by taking elements from both.

Now, after a challenging managerial journey, Lampard has rebuilt his reputation and led Coventry back to the top level of English football.
“This is one of my proudest achievements,” he said after the match.
