In the opening match of Matchday 3 of the YoHealth Malta Premier League, Floriana and Gżira United shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the Tony Bezzina Stadium.
With this result, Floriana now sit on 7 points from three matches, while Gżira United are still searching for their first win of the season, having collected just 2 points from three games.
Gżira took the lead in the 12th minute through Maxuell Maia, who scored directly from a free kick that found the back of the net.
However, the Maroons’ lead was short-lived. Just five minutes later, in the 17th minute, Federico Varela provided a well-placed assist to Rui Areias, who made no mistake from close range, finishing past young goalkeeper Kalr Sargent to level the score.
Despite numerous chances for both sides throughout the match, until the final whistle from Ishmael Barbara, neither team managed to find the winner, and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
