Philippe Clement has assured Rangers supporters that they will witness an “intriguing” team in action against Hearts on Saturday. However, he acknowledges that it may take several months for his revamped squad to fully gel together.
The Belgian manager made these comments on the same day it was announced that he had extended his contract at Ibrox until 2028.
Clement has been busy in the transfer market, bringing in nine new players as he aims to reclaim the title from Celtic. Unfortunately, defender Robin Propper, who joined from FC Twente on Thursday, might not be able to make his debut this weekend due to paperwork issues. Additionally, Vaclav Cerny is unlikely to start, and Hamza Igamane still needs more time to reach optimal fitness levels.
The Light Blues have been unconvincing in pre-season and ahead of the Scottish Premiership season opener at Tynecastle, Clement said: “I am 200 per cent sure we are going to be much better in October, November and December and the months after.
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has expressed his strong desire to enhance his team’s performance as he sets his sights on achieving a treble and making progress in European competitions in the upcoming season. However, he acknowledges that in order to accomplish this plan, he still needs to strengthen his squad with high-quality players.

Rodgers’ second term as manager concluded on a positive note, with Celtic winning 11 out of their last 12 matches and securing a double. The team showcased promising signs of continuing their impressive form during their pre-season tour of the United States, where they scored four goals against DC United, Manchester City, and Chelsea. Their coordinated pressing demonstrated an improved understanding of Rodgers’ tactical requirements.
Nevertheless, as they prepare for their Scottish Premiership opener against Kilmarnock at home on Sunday, broadcasted live on Sky Sports, Celtic has made minimal changes to their squad. The retired Joe Hart has been replaced by Kasper Schmeichel, while Paulo Bernardo has returned to the club on a permanent deal after his loan spell from Benfica. Celtic could potentially reach a similar level as they did at the end of last season if they manage to secure a deal for forward Adam Idah from Norwich.
Rodgers maintains a calm demeanor regarding the transfer plans as there are four weeks remaining in the window. He is optimistic that his team can start strong.
“Our goal is to triumph in every domestic competition,” he stated. “There’s no room for excuses.”
“We’re participating in an exhilarating Champions League format, and our aim is to reach the play-off stage.”
