Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk has been officially charged by the Football Association for breaking anti-doping rules. The 24-year-old Ukraine international failed a drugs test last year and has been provisionally suspended since December 2024.
The failed test came from a routine urine sample, which showed the presence of a banned substance. If found guilty of taking the substance intentionally, Mudryk could face a ban of up to four years, as per FIFA’s guidelines.
Mudryk has denied any wrongdoing, saying he was in “complete shock” and never knowingly took anything illegal. He hasn’t played for Chelsea since 28 November and has not trained with the squad since his suspension. The club says it is supporting his mental wellbeing during this time.
The FA has now confirmed the formal charge. A second test, known as the B sample, could confirm the result. Mudryk can accept the charge or request a hearing.
Chelsea signed Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023 for a fee of up to £89 million. He has scored 10 goals in 73 appearances for the club and is under contract until 2031.
