Leeds beat Manchester United to end 45-year wait

For the first time since the 1994/95 season, Leeds United avoided defeat in both league matches against Manchester United, winning 2-1 at Old Trafford. It was also their first league win at this ground in 45 years.

Leeds started brightly and created an early chance when Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s effort was saved from close range. They soon took the lead, with Noah Okafor scoring from a cross by Jayden Bogle. Manchester United struggled to respond, although Amad Diallo had a couple of attempts.

Leeds continued to look the stronger side and doubled their lead before the half-hour mark. Okafor’s shot took a deflection off Leny Yoro and went into the net. United nearly went further behind before half-time, but Lisandro Martínez made a crucial clearance on the line.

United began the second half better and almost scored, but their effort was cleared off the line. Soon after, Martínez was sent off following a VAR review for pulling Calvert-Lewin’s hair.

Despite going down to 10 men, United improved and pulled a goal back with 20 minutes to go, as Casemiro scored from a Bruno Fernandes cross.
