The investigation that is being conducted against Barcelona bothered the leaders of Sevilla, who yesterday refused to sit in the box next to the highest managers of the Catalan club.
Barcelona is suspected of paying money from 2001 to 2018 to the account of the private company of the former high-ranking member of the Judicial Commission, Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira.
Negreira reportedly received around 8.4 million euros over the years from Barcelona.
An investigation was launched on Thursday, and before the match against Barcelona, the leaders of Sevilla informed the public that they would not attend this match in the box.
Barcelona soon responded with a statement.
FC Barcelona wants to publicly say that it rejects the unjustified and inappropriate attack by Sevilla, the club that today refused to sit at the table at the directors’ lunch before the match between the two teams at the Montjuic stadium, where representatives of the visiting club also refused to attend the box of honor. In addition to this contempt, the Andalusian club sent a statement to the public in which it showed “indignation and rejection of the practice of the former leaders of FC Barcelona accused of the “Negreira case” and announced its absence from the box today.
Barcelona understands that this is an attack on a Catalan institution and an unacceptable offense. The so-called “Negreira case” cannot be used as an excuse for such actions because the court proceedings are in a premature investigative phase and the positioning of FC Sevilla clearly prejudices the facts which are not accredited in any case, in any of their preliminary and hypothetical classifications”, says between other things in Barcelona’s statement.
Yesterday, in the eighth round of La Liga, Barcelona defeated Sevilla with a score of 1:0.
