Malta U18 Women set for FIBA U18  EuroBasket Championship in Kosovo

A busy summer for the Malta national basketball selections continues next week as the Under-18 women’s team will be competing in the FIBA U18 Women’s Eurobasket Division C in Prishtina, Kosovo.

Last year, the Malta U18 women’s team went all the way in this tournament, winning the trophy after beating hosts Albania 56-47 for their first title since 2007.

The 2024 edition will see Malta take on Cyprus in their first Group A game on Tuesday (23  July, 14.30hrs) while their second and final group commitment is against hosts Kosovo on Thursday (25 July, 19.30hrs). Group B comprises Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia.

The first classification match and semi-finals are scheduled for Saturday, 27 July followed by the final matches on Sunday. All games will be played at the Tetori Sports Hall.

Coach Roderick Vella has selected a squad of 12 players for this tournament with the contingent due to fly out to Kosovo on Sunday. Interestingly, the squad features three sisters – Anna, Rebecca and Sara Fenech Pace.

Vella is assisted by Caroline Schiavone and Matthew Borg, while Kevin Magro is the team’s fitness trainer.
