LeBron James added another historic milestone to his remarkable career on Saturday after becoming the NBA’s all-time leader for regular-season appearances, taking the court for his 1,612th game as the Los Angeles Lakers faced the Orlando Magic. The previous record of 1,611 had been held by Robert Parish since 1997.

The 41-year-old Lakers star had tied Parish’s mark two days earlier in Miami, where he produced a triple-double in a win over the Heat. He moved clear of the former Boston Celtics great against Orlando, continuing a 23rd NBA season that has already further underlined his extraordinary longevity.

James already owns several major league records, including the all-time scoring mark, and this latest achievement only strengthens his place among basketball’s greatest ever players. According to NBA coverage, he entered the record-breaking game having built one of the most durable careers the sport has ever seen, driven by elite physical preparation and a relentless competitive mindset.

Speaking before breaking the record, James said many of the milestones he has reached were never specific targets when he entered the league. Instead, his ambitions were centred on becoming one of the greatest players in NBA history, winning championships, earning major individual honours and representing his country at the highest level.
James has also stressed how important availability has been throughout his career, saying that being ready for his teammates has always mattered greatly to him. That mentality has helped him remain an elite presence deep into his forties and continue rewriting the record books nearly a quarter-century after entering the NBA.
The night became even more memorable for the Lakers, who defeated the Magic 105-104 thanks to a dramatic late three-pointer from Luke Kennard, with James finishing the game with 12 points as Los Angeles extended its winning streak to nine games.
