BODIROGA CLEARLY: The interest of the Euroleague is that Campazzo plays

Euroleague President Dejan Bodiroga expressed his opinion regarding the “Campazzo” case, due to which the Argentinian basketball player will not be able to play in this competition until March.

The Argentinian could acquire the right to play for the red and whites only in the 26th round of the Euroleague. The same would apply to all other players that Red Star might bring in in the coming period.

On the occasion of this case, the president of the Euroleague, Dejan Bodiroga, who has a clear position, spoke out.

“On December 30, 2022, the Euroleague management sent a recommendation to the competent, independent commissions – the Management Control Commission and the Financial Commission, to allow the registration of Facundo Campazzo to Red Star and to enable him to play because it is in the interest of the competition.

At the same time, we supported all decisions that go in the direction of maximum compliance with all regulations related to financial stability and fair play, which also implies strengthening supervision.

Regarding the final decision, my position is quite clear and there is no need to further clarify it,” said Bodiroga.

“The Financial Commission of the Euroleague, an independent regulatory body, imposed a sanction consisting of a ban on the registration of new players and coaches until February 28, 2023, and a fine of 25 thousand euros to Red Star for a serious violation of the Financial Stability and Fair Play Rules”, he stated the previous days in the Euroleague announcement.

The “Campazzo” case was referred to the Financial Commission on December 1, 2022, by the Management Control Commission, an independent commission that considers the financial performance of clubs and their compliance with relevant regulations.
