Daria Kasatkina says she feels mentally refreshed as she prepares to return to action at the Brisbane International after taking a six-week break from tennis.
Kasatkina, who switched her nationality to Australia earlier this year, stopped playing in October because of mental fatigue caused by a busy tour schedule and the stress of securing full eligibility to compete for her new country.
Speaking to Australian Associated Press, she said tennis players often struggle to accept the need for a break due to constant tournaments and the pressure of defending ranking points.
Kasatkina admitted the first few weeks away from the sport were difficult, but said the time off helped her regain balance and perspective. She now feels recharged and ready to return to competition.
The Brisbane International, which serves as a warm-up event for the Australian Open, begins on Sunday.
