Monaco’s Valentin Vacherot pulled off a brilliant win over world number five Lorenzo Musetti, beating him 7-6(6), 7-5 in front of a delighted home crowd at the Monte Carlo Masters.
The result made the 27-year-old only the second Monegasque player, after his half-brother and coach Benjamin Balleret, to reach the third round of the tournament.
It was also his second win over a top-five player, following his victory over Novak Djokovic on his way to winning his first ATP title at the Shanghai Masters last year.

Speaking after the match, Vacherot said he would never have believed he’d be winning on the very court he had been playing on since the age of six, adding that clay is where he learned to play tennis.
Vacherot, who shot up from number 204 in the world to number 40 after his Shanghai win, will next face Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz on Thursday.
