This Saturday will be a special day for Maltese horse racing, with three representatives from the Malta Racing Club competing overseas in races held in Hungary and France.
Paul Galea will be racing in the Mediterranean and Middle Sea Championship, which is now being held at Kincsem Park racetrack in Budapest, Hungary, after Romania passed on the hosting of this round. Galea is set to race at around 2pm in the third race of the day, over a distance of 1900 metres. He will be driving horse number 9, FABIO.
His competitors include Denise Trina from Italy, Boris Novic from Serbia, Viorel Gheorghe from Romania, Frank Ouvrie from France, and Jose A. de Rocha Ferreira from Portugal.

So far, Malta is in last place in the championship after underwhelming results in the earlier stages held in Malta and France. The final round of the competition will take place in Sicily this December.
Later in the evening, Sven Caruana and Shazney Abela, will be racing in Cagnes-sur-Mer, France. They will compete in the World Summer Cup Junior Final, a championship for drivers aged between 11 and 16. This is the first time that young members from the Malta Racing Club Academy are taking part, thanks to the support of EquestriMalta, which helped make the trip possible.

The races for the junior championship will be the first and last on the evening’s programme, scheduled for 6:30pm and 10:45pm. In the first race, Sven Caruana will drive pony ERNEST, while Shazney Abela will be racing with TURBO.
The young drivers are being accompanied on the trip by Tony Demanuele on behalf of the Malta Racing Club, along with Max Zammit, CEO, and Dean Hili, Chairperson of EquestriMalta.
