The EquestriMalta President’s Cup Final will take place on Sunday 1 March, marking another milestone for one of the leading events in Malta trot racing.
First introduced into the local trotting calendar in 1992, the President’s Cup has become a regular fixture of the Maltese racing season. Now in its fifth year under the sponsorship of EquestriMalta, the championship continues to expand in scale and profile.
Details of this year’s edition were presented during a press conference attended by representatives from the racing sector. EquestriMalta Chief Executive Officer Max Zammit outlined the development of the competition since it began receiving financial backing from the authority, under the patronage of Myriam Spiteri Debono, President of Malta.
The 2026 edition will feature record prize money. The winner of the President’s Cup will receive €5,000. Second place will be awarded €2,500, third place €1,200, fourth place €500 and fifth place €250. The prize structure reflects the event’s standing within the Maltese trot racing calendar.
The Final will be held at Malta Equidrome, which has recently undergone upgrading works. Last year’s edition was not held due to these improvements. Organisers stated that the updated facilities now provide a suitable setting for the championship.
The President of Malta is expected to attend the event for the second time and will present the trophies to the winners.
In addition to the main race, the Mini President’s Cup will also take place. The event will feature two pony trotting finals driven by children from the Malta Racing Club Academy, highlighting youth participation within the sport.
Twelve horses have qualified for the Final following the semi finals. Owners selected their starting positions behind the autostart based on semi final performances. The official draw confirmed the following order:
- Diablo d’Herfraie
