EquestriMalta, in collaboration with the Malta Racing Club and the Malta Equidrome, has officially announced the first two finals of the 2026 racing season. The season will begin with a double racing programme over the upcoming weekend, featuring the return of the EquestriMalta Grand Final.
The first final will bring together the top four horses from the Copper, Bronze and Silver categories, while the second final will see the top six Gold category horses compete against the top six Premier category horses. Both finals represent two of the highest-level events in Maltese horse racing, celebrating the start of the new year.
The invitational finals will take place on Sunday 18 January, as the fifth and eighth races of the day. Each race will feature twelve participants, selected based on their ranking in the Malta Racing Club Best Trotter classification, finalised on 28 December 2025. EquestriMalta continues to provide full financial support for these prestigious finals, offering a total prize fund of approximately €13,000 and awarding winners with the artistic trophy introduced last year.
The EquestriMalta Grand Final will be run over a distance of 2160 metres with a standing start. Handicaps have been applied to ensure balanced competition among participants from different categories. The line-up for the Copper-Bronze-Silver final includes horses such as Head Over Heels, Gringo Marancourt, Invite de Star and Fley Vert, while the Premier-Gold final features competitors including Lee Harvey Bros, Ecrin du Layon, Diamant du Ruel and Hamlet du Vivier.
Max Zammit, CEO of EquestriMalta, highlighted the organisation’s commitment to supporting the racing season and attracting the best horses in Malta. Dr Matthew Brincat, CEO of the Malta Equidrome, encouraged fans to attend the opening race meetings and witness the Grand Finals, while Tony Demanuele, Vice-Chairman of the Malta Racing Club, praised the finalists, their owners and drivers for their dedication and consistent performance throughout the previous season.
The EquestriMalta Grand Final promises to be a competitive and exciting start to 2026, setting the tone for the new racing season and showcasing the top trotting talent across all categories in Maltese horse racing.
