Kayden Lagana’ takes top honours in MBA Masters

Kayden Lagana’ has won the MBA Masters Tournament, the top local event in Maltese ten-pin bowling.

After two qualifying rounds, where Shawn Montanaro and Mark Spiteri both scored perfect 300 games, the top 10 players moved on to the quarter-finals. It was a very close contest, with the final spots decided by just a few pins.

Lagana’ performed very well in the quarter-finals, finishing first with an average score of 229. He was followed by Nicolai Mallia, Mikhail Mallia, Nicholas Muscat, Matthew Magro and Tomas Caruso.

The players were then split into two groups, with one bowler knocked out in each round. In the first group, Tomas Caruso narrowly missed out by just two pins, while Lagana’ impressed with a high score of 279. The second group was also very close, with only a few pins between the players.

Lagana’ continued his strong form in the next stage and reached the final, where he faced Nicolai Mallia.

In the final, both players started well, but Lagana’ was clearly stronger on the day. He scored 257 compared to Mallia’s 221 to win the 2026 Masters title.

Lagana’ and Mallia will now travel to Croatia, along with Cynthia Frendo Duca and Tiziana Muscat Carannante, to represent Malta at the Mediterranean Bowling Championships.
