Excitement is building ahead of the BOV Tazza l-Kbira Final, as owners of this year’s competing horses gathered for the official draw of starting numbers. The final is scheduled for 12th April 2026.
The draw ensures a fair allocation of starting positions, which plays an important part in race strategy at Malta’s most historic trotting competition.
The event was attended by Malta Equidrome CEO Dr Matthew Brincat, BOV Head of CSR Charles Azzopardi, Malta Racing Club Vice President Tony Demanuele, and EquestriMalta Chairman Dean Hili.
Dr Brincat noted the strong quality of this year’s field. Twelve horses made it through to the final from an original line-up of 63 contenders, following a highly competitive qualifying phase.
Mr Azzopardi reaffirmed Bank of Valletta’s backing of local sport, describing the Tazza l-Kbira as a national tradition worth championing.
The final promises a fun day out for families and racing fans, with entertainment including Leoni Reali, a flag-throwing team from Sicily. The traditional parade will be led by last year’s winner, Dats so Cool from Italy, with drivers and owners presented on horse-drawn carriages and Karozzini.
