Malta’s Under-18 national water polo team claimed a hard-fought win over Poland after a dramatic penalty shootout. This victory means the team will now play in another classification match.
The first session ended in a 3-3 draw. Poland then took the lead by winning the second session 2-1. In the third session, Malta fought back and won 3-2 to level the score. The fourth and final session also ended in a 2-2 draw, so the match had to be decided by penalties.
Jayden Cutajar scored two penalties for Malta. Julian Chircop, Luigi Dimech, and Sam Engerger also scored, while Kydon Agius missed his first shot but made up for it by scoring the winning goal in his final attempt. Malta secured the win with a final score of 15-14.
Malta will be back in action tomorrow at 9:30am in the match for ninth place, where they will face Germany.
