Alex Marquez won the Spanish Grand Prix for the second year in a row on Sunday, while his brother Marc Marquez crashed out early in dramatic fashion.
Racing in his 250th Grand Prix and just days after his 30th birthday, Alex started fifth on the grid but quickly moved through the field. He overtook Marc early in the race and then pulled clear to take a brilliant victory.
Marc, who had started from pole position and was chasing his 100th Grand Prix win across all classes, crashed on lap two at turn 11 while trying to keep up with his younger brother.
Championship leader Marco Bezzecchi finished second for Aprilia but was unable to close the gap to Alex over the 25 laps. Fabio Di Giannantonio completed the podium in third place.
Marc’s crash leaves him 44 points behind Bezzecchi in the championship standings, with another missed chance to win at Jerez.
The race started in bright sunshine after difficult wet conditions during Saturday’s sprint. Alex made a perfect start from fifth, quickly moving past Bezzecchi and then overtaking Marc for the lead.
Marc’s race then came to an early end after losing control and crashing, disappointing the home crowd.

Further back, Ducati also had a difficult day as Francesco Bagnaia retired with a technical issue, meaning both Ducati bikes failed to finish.
At the front, however, it was all about Alex Marquez, who celebrated with the fans after crossing the finish line.
