Valletta Subuteo Club win 'International Open'

This weekend, the MTFSA organised a World Federation (FISTF) International Open, at Valletta Malta.

On Day 1, the individual competitions took place with two categories, Open, and Veterans.

In the Open Category, Malta Champion and tournament favourite Samuel Bartolo beat the strong challenge of Mark Gauci in the final. 

Samuel Bartolo had a narrow escape in the quarters when he was losing 1-3 to promising player Melvin Barun at half time, only to overturn the match and win 5-3. The other semifinalists of the Open category were Jurgen Balzan and Jean Carl Tabone.

In the Veterans, Charles Aquilina,  made amends for last month`s defeat to Patrick Pace  in the final of the FISTF Satellite, this time beating him 2-0 in the semifinal. In the final, Aquilina defeated John Zammit to add another title to his long list. The other semifinalist in this category was Jason Pisani.

Finally, the “Consolation” tournaments were won by Hansel Mallia (Open) and Frank Chetcuti (veterans).

On Day 2 of this weekend`s MTFSA FISTF International Open, the team’s competition took place.

Taking Part were Ħ’Attard Subbuteo ClubValletta Subbuteo ClubValletta Lions Table Football Club , Bormla Subbuteo Club, and AS Cosenza from Italy.

A league between all five clubs took place with the first and second winning the right to contest the final. Valletta Subbuteo Club dominated proceedings winning all four matches while the usual contender Bormla Subbuteo Club came second, followed closely by Valletta Lions Table Football Club, AS Cosenza, and H`Attard Subbuteo Club.

The final was convincingly won by Valletta Subbuteo Club, with a clear 4-0 score, and thus they were declared winners of this FISTF International Open.
