Ultra-endurance athlete Fabio Spiteri has made history by securing Malta’s first-ever podium finish in a World Cup IUTA Ultra Triathlon event, while also setting a new national record.
Fabio completed an incredible challenge, 10 Ironman distances, a Deca Ironman in under 10 days, covering 38 km swimming, 1,800 km cycling, and 422 km running. He finished in 233 hours and 39 minutes, beating his previous time by a huge 31 hours.
His outstanding effort earned him a Top 3 overall finish, placing 2nd among men and 1st in the Over-50 category, a proud achievement for Malta on the global stage.
The race was tough, and Fabio nearly quit on Day 2, but thanks to the support of his crew, Philip Cachia and Moudy El Laz, he pushed through both dark and high moments to reach the podium.

“If my journey has inspired you, I ask one favour, please donate to Project 100,” said Fabio. “I’m trying to raise €100,000 to support all animal shelters in Malta and Gozo.”
Fabio Spiteri’s Deca Ironman achievement is a milestone for Maltese sport and a testament to strength, determination, and community spirit.
