Gżira United secured their spot in the final of the Ġammari Mosta Tournament following a dramatic penalty shoot-out victory over Sliema Wanderers. The semi-final encounter ended in a 1-1 draw after extra time, but it was the Maroons who held their nerves from the spot to move one step closer to the cup.
Sliema had taken the lead through Murillo, who found the net in the first half to give the Wanderers the advantage. However, Gżira responded when Maxuel Maia Samurai converted from the penalty spot to level the score. Despite chances on both ends, neither side managed to break the deadlock in the remaining minutes, sending the tie into penalties where Gżira emerged victorious.
In another match, Marsaxlokk edged past Tarxien Rainbows with a narrow 1-0 win.
Meanwhile, Mosta FC play against Żabbar St Patrick in the other semifinal today scheduled at 8.30am. On the other hand, Valletta FC play against Naxxar Lions. (kick-off 6.15pm)
